 Rain is not always a disadvantage, but also a blessing

A. Thesis:

Usually, the beginning of the rainy season is predicted to occur in October - December, while the peak is expected to take place in January - February. However, until mid-March Semarang City was hit by heavy rains due to high rainfall. Since Saturday (9/3/2024), rain has often drenched Semarang City from morning to night. Rainfall in Semarang City is getting worse day by day. With the duration of the rain lasting the whole day, as well as in a long duration.

B. Argument 1

With the increasingly frequent rains that drench the capital of Central Java and the duration that can be a full day can cause flooding. At its peak on Thursday night (13/03), it rained all night. Several areas were affected by flooding, including Jalan Kaligawe, USM Tunnel, Banjar Kanal Timur, Simpang Lima, and many more. The height of the flood is estimated to reach around 40 cm - 1.5 meters. As a result, traffic flow experienced significant disruption. And many vehicles broke down due to the flood.

C. Argument 2

Because some areas were flooded, the normal activities of residents in Semarang were hampered. One example is school activities that must temporarily be transferred to online learning. In addition to the flooding, the factor that makes school activities diverted to online learning is due to the collapse of several building roofs in classrooms. With the collapse of the roof of the classroom makes danger in direct teaching and learning activities, and there is also some damage in the form of a short circuit of electricity. So that teaching and learning activities are transferred online, in order to reduce the level of risk to teachers and students in learning activities.

D. Argument 3

Not only flooding, road subsidence and landslides that occurred at several points became one of the other impacts of this unrelenting rain. The depth is estimated to be around 3.5 meters. Luckily, there were no casualties in this incident, but the collapse of the road hampered the access of local residents and had to detour to a farther road.

E. Conclusion

Rain is a natural phenomenon that often occurs in various countries, especially in tropical countries like Indonesia. This phenomenon can be both a blessing and a disaster for mankind, as there are several impacts caused by rain. But rain is also a gift of grace from God, the Most Provident, rain can be said to be sustenance because rain is a great gift when the dry season arrives. So we as humans must look at it from two perspectives, not only the bad effects, but also as a blessing and favor that God has given to all of us through rain.
