 The Best Invesment For The Future Of The Next Generation

   In 2022, regarding reading literacy in Indonesia, Indonesia is ranked 5 positions higher than in 2018. But even so, the score obtained shows a decrease and Indonesia still occupies the bottom 11 ranks out of 81 countries recorded. The data can state the truth that reading is the window to the world. Because by reading, we can feel the various benefits. In my personal opinion, reading is a very important activity to do as the best investment for the future. Why is that?

   First, the most positive impact of reading books that we can feel directly is increasing knowledge. As explained earlier, "Reading is the window to the world" is a sentence that we often hear because by reading books our imagination becomes open, our mind becomes wandering, and of course it gives positive results to increase creativity. By reading books regularly our creativity can increase in the future.

   Secondly, by reading books, our vocabulary will automatically increase. Therefore, it is highly recommended to read more quality books, both in Indonesian and other foreign languages. Because with the addition of vocabulary recorded in our brain memory, the ability to write can also increase over time. With this skill, we can improve our skills when speaking, even writing an article, paper, or thesis.

    Third, another positive impact of reading books is that it can increase the brain's capacity to remember things. Based on the research of Maryanne Wolf from Tufts University, when reading, we will have more time to think because the brain is 'forced' to produce narratives, and imagine. Thus, reading books regularly can train the brain to improve memory and even our critical thinking skills. In the future, by having a strong memory and trained critical thinking skills, one will have a greater chance of achieving success in various fields.

   So, from the facts of the positive impact of good literacy, it can be concluded that investing in improving our literacy will bring many long-term benefits to the individual, society, and even the country. Therefore, we can ensure that literacy is not only an individual skill, but can also be a solid foundation in building a knowledgeable, competitive society in the current and future global era.
