Argumentative Text about General Election

 Election is not a trigger for division, but the beginning of unity

A.   Thesis :

The 2024 Indonesian Presidential General Election is the fifth general election in Indonesia. General election itself means the process of electing members of an elected body of a lesgilative body and the president as regulated by the 1945 Constitution, and also Pancasila. However, there are some things that are very unfortunate in this year's general election. This year's election has created more pros and cons that can pose challenges that threaten the unity of the nation than last year's elections. Such as the out-of-control and self-righteous dissent of the Indonesian population, the opinions of presidential candidates that contradict the mindset of the community. These things will trigger a division.

B.    Argumentative 1

One example of a problem that has become the spotlight of the community is the age of one of the vice presidential candidates, more precisely candidate 2. People began to criticize him because he was still under 40 years old but had already advanced to become a vice presidential candidate. This debate has caused pros and cons from supporters of candidate 2 and neutral parties. There are those who agree, because the regulation was changed when he wanted to run for office, so according to the Indonesian people this is suspicious. But there are also those who disagree because if it is prohibited or limited in age, it becomes undemocratic, and it is no longer the time to measure a person's ability based on their age.

C.    Argumentative 2

In addition to the debate about the age of one of the vice presidential candidates, we cannot deny that there will be supporters who are too fanatical to glorify the programs made by their candidate. Supporters tend to be too focused on seeing what their candidate is doing as the most correct and perfect step. They look at the program without considering the quality of the leader. For example, although the idea of a program sounds interesting, if it is not supported by a leader with good ability or quality, then the program may not be realized or even create new problems.

D.    Argumentative 3

As a result of such out-of-control differences of opinion, it has a bad impact. One of them is the news of a case of child abuse against his parents due to differences of opinion while watching the presidential debate. Cases like this can occur due to the negative impact of a person's inability to manage differences of opinion properly and wisely. This incident is not only heartbreaking, but also reminds us to be able to build healthy communication and be able to respect each other's differences.

E.     Conclusion 

Although Indonesia's 2024 presidential election has generated more pros and cons that could threaten divisions than last years' elections. However, we must not forget that elections should be a momentum to strengthen national unity, not a trigger for division. We as good Indonesians must be able to manage differences of opinion wisely, and uphold the values of democracy and unity, then elections will not be something that can trigger divisions, but rather an opportunity to strengthen the foundations of national unity.
